SALVADOR “CHAVA” BUSTAMENTE
BIO
Chava relocated from Mexico to the United States in 1968 and joined the United Farm Workers Union and local labor movements. As a young man, he worked in the fields of California with his brother and resides here today. Chava was involved with the United Farm Workers Union, the Service Employees International Union, Sol California, and currently, with Latinos United for a New America. He is a moving force for labor unions and worker’s rights.

Chava shares his experience of working in the fields and living in boarding camps, as well as his later work with the United Farm Workers Union, SOL California, and now, with Latinos United for a New America. Chava describes the process of unionizing, negotiating, and expanding worker’s rights and the systems in place that benefit the growers and exploit the workers.
